5 Places To Donate Toys

By Ann Baisden January 14, 2018

Santa has come and gone, and the kids are back in school, and if you’re like me, your kid has way too many toys. Sure, there’s the favorites, but then there’s also the ones that were hot for a whole week, but he’s moved on. I have deemed January as “Toy Purge Month” in my house, and whenever possible (preferably when Junior is not home), I try to go through at least one basket/crate/container and get rid of anything I can. But every year I always wonder what to do with all of these toys? Sure, there’s random things from the quarter machines at the grocery store that can go in the garbage, but what about the remote control dinosaur that works perfectly, and could make another kid’s day?

I’ve done some searching online, as well as asked fellow Toledo moms, and here are five local charities that accept donations of gently used toys, and put them to good use:

Children’s Rights Collaborative is a non-profit program that works with families for peaceful custody exchanges and visitations. Their wishlist states they are always in need of outdoor toys such as playhouses, toddler toys, ride-on toys, and benches. CRC is located in Hope United Methodist Church, 4069 W. Sylvania Ave.

Family House is a local non-profit organization that provides housing and social services for families in crisis. They are always in need of basic, daily items, as well as toys and supplies for children of all ages. Call 419-242-5505 to set up an appointment to drop off items.

Good Grief is a non-profit organization that offers support for grieving children and their families. This service is completely free of charge, and gives children a chance to express their emotions through play, art, music, and other activities. This group is always in need of toys that support creative play, such as Legos and tool kits. Contact the office at 419-360-4939 to let them know you have items to donate.

Mom’s House is a local faith-based group that works to stop the cycle of poverty and welfare for young, at-risk parents and their children, with an emphasis on education. Their wish list includes new books and toys for children of any age. If you are interested in donating, call (419) 241-5554 to set up a time to drop off.

Toledo Calvary is running a toy drive for the month of January. They will be distributing donations to their local partners. Call 419-893-2171 to find out what times they will be available to accept donations.
