April Showers Don't Have to Bring Boredom!

My 5 favorite things to do on a rainy day

By Ann Baisden April 22, 2017

Spring means so many things in Toledo.... including rainy days.

Parks are usually my go-to for when the lil Mac has extra energy to burn off.  I let him run around for a good hour in the morning and he's much happier the rest of the day.  But when we're getting our April Showers, I have to come up with other plans. Here's a list of my favorite things to do on rainy days:

1.Movie day

We like to do themed marathons-Disney, Marvel, Star Wars. I'll pop some popcorn, make some healthy snacks and sit back.  The lil Mac will usually end up putting one of his superhero costumes on and act out the movie as it's playing. Throw in some board games and a DIY pizza-perfect day!

2. Get out and enjoy it!

I love walking around barefoot in the wet grass-but maybe that's just me? Even if you don't, why not put on some rain boots and take a walk through some trails? If you can find a waterproof camera, it'd be a great time to take pictures.  Rescue worms, make mudpies, or have a water gun fight in the rain!

3. Sylvania Playland

When the kiddo has gobs of energy and is getting a case of cabin fever-Sylvania Playland is perfect. There's inflatables, bouce houses, golf, an arcade-and if they want, there's ice cream!

4. Make your own Play-dough!

Add the following:

1 C flour
1 C warm water
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp oil
1/4 C salt
Food coloring of your choice
Mix all of the ingrediants, adding the food coloring last, into a large sauce pan. Strir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead until blended.  Place in plastic bag when cooled.
Lasts (almost) forever!

5. Treasure hunt

Why not hide a "treasure" somewhere and have the kids follow the clues or map to find it? Even better-turn it around let THEM make the clues!
