My Top 5

April 15, 2017

I love trying new places-restaurants, coffee shops, parks, boutiques, novelty stores. You never know when you might find your new favorite place.  It seems like in Toledo there's always a new shop going in somewhere. So here's a list of 5 of my favorite places to take my lil Mac:

1. Nevermore Bookstore 2856 W Sylvania Ave

I'm so thrilled when I see a kid excited to read. Nevermore Bookstore is a second hand bookstore off of Sylvania Ave, FULL of used books. They're organized by category, and they even have a great kids area in the back.  They keep over 20,000 used books in stock, they have reasonable prices, and you can get strore credit by bringing in your old books.

2. Toledo Farmers Market 525 Market St

What could be better than walking through aisles of fresh, locally grown produce and locally handmade products? It's even sweeter with stands like Holey Toledough and All Crumbs Artisan Bakery. A cup of joe from Flying Rhine Coffee for this mama, and a bag of kettle corn from Karen Anne's Kettle Korn for the lil mac and hubby, and our Saturday morning is made!

3. Three Dog Bakery 5236 Monroe St

I admit it, I am one of those people that LOVES to spoil my dogs. So when I found out there was a doggy bakery opening I couldn't wait to pick up some gourmet treats.  Weather it's a Collie Canoli or one of the packages of seasonal treats (they have a ridiculously cute seasonal "Cafe" line, that comes in coffee-like plastic cups), I know that my girls are getting all natural ingrediants, and no refined sugar or artificial flavors.  My lil Mac loves our 4-legged kids, and he LOVES being able to pick from the bakery case, and from the wall of toys!

4. Valentine Theatre 410 Adams St

OK, so this is a new one for us.  I had heard they were doing a play called Biscuit-based on the childrens book series.  I wasn't 100% sure if lil Mac was going to be able to sit still in the seat for a whole hour.  When we were leaving I asked what he thought-and low and behold he had a huge grin and said he loved it. They have more kid themed plays coming up as well-Monster Who Ate My Peas is April 23. It's a great way to introduce your little one to theatre.

5. Toledo Parks

This shouldn't be a surprise for any one living in Toledo.  There are some amazing parks here.  Wildwood has the most beautiful trails for walking our pups.  Secor is perfect for a picnic.  The newest Metropark-Middleground-has the best view of downtown Toledo, and includes a fenced in area for off-leash dogs! The lil Mac has had some educational field trips with school and Cub Scouts to the Botanical Gardens, and he loved them.

So tell me, what are your favorite places in Toledo?
